Long car journeys have become quiet pockets of calm for me.

When the world outside feels loud or overwhelming, I draw mandalas.
Not to pass the time — but to gently step away from everything around me.

Each line, dot, and repeating shape helps my brain slow down, narrow its focus, and settle into a steadier rhythm. It’s how I block out the noise, regulate my thoughts, and create a sense of safety before arriving at whatever lies ahead.

This mandala was drawn somewhere between movement and stillness — a visual anchor, a breathing space, and a way to arrive grounded rather than frazzled.

Sometimes art isn’t about the finished piece at all.

I thought I would try something different with my mandala. I started off with the seed of life in the middle and then moved outward. I wasn't sure what to expect, but I like the end result. This is a W2 Zentangle that I've been working on today. I love how relaxing drawing Zentangles and Mandalas makes me feel. Having autism and ADHD, for me, means that if I'm due to go on a road trip, or I'm going somewhere where I know I'm going to feel overwhelmed, drawing a Zentangle or a mandala before I go out helps calm me to a degree that takes some of the edge off that overwhelm #zentangle #zentangleart #zentangleartist #wellbeing #mindfulart #adhd #autism #audhd #neurodivergentartist #artistsoninstagram

I've called this mandala Solar Harmony due to its contrast between black and orange, giving it a sense of energy and movement. Solar Harmony symbolises the balance of the structured patterns with the warmth and radiance of the orange hues.

I've had to take a few days off from my other work due to having a sore throat and laryngitis, so I have been unable to film tutorials. This is my first piece that is my own design rather than copying tangles from a book. A few mistakes were made, but that's ok as every piece is a learning curve and I found the whole process so relaxing.
